Love That Leaves You Free
I would rather be chosen with the door open than kept close by a heart that wants to leave. Love means more when staying is still a choice.

Context
Someone staying is not always the same as someone choosing to stay.
People remain close for many reasons. Love can be one of them, but so can familiarity, responsibility, fear of hurting someone, or simply the difficulty of leaving what has become known.
That does not make commitment meaningless. Perhaps it gives commitment its meaning. There is something different about a person who could walk away, yet continues to turn toward the life they have chosen with you.
Freedom carries a risk that possession tries to remove: the possibility of loss. But removing that possibility can also remove something essential from the choice itself.
I think the deepest kind of closeness is not created by closing the door.
It is knowing the door is open and still finding each other there.
