The Woman I See
The world is quick to name a woman by what it can see. I have learned to look longer. Her work may tell me something about her life, but never enough to tell me who she is.

The most visible parts of a life are often the easiest to turn into definitions.
Work, past decisions and difficult chapters can tell us something real about a person. But knowing something about someone is not the same as understanding them.
A role does not show how a person treats others when nothing is expected in return. It does not reveal what she values, what she carries quietly, what she hopes for, or the parts of herself she has managed to keep intact.
Looking beyond a label does not mean pretending that our choices say nothing about us. They do. They simply do not say everything.
Perhaps seeing someone clearly begins when curiosity lasts longer than judgment.
